Evidence & continuity

Continuity you can show the court in seconds.

Every exhibit, every movement, every person who handled it, linked to the case and protected by a hash chain that exposes any later alteration.

Exhibits

Originals and what you produced from them.

CASEY keeps original exhibits and produced (generated) exhibits such as images and extractions as separate, linked records. You can trace any produced exhibit back to the originals it came from.

  • Property bags for submitted and generated exhibits, with administrator-managed bag types
  • Linked originals and provenance columns on the produced exhibits table
  • Evidence-present markers in the exhibits tree
CASEY case details window with a timeline of case log activity, exhibits, items, movements and examination tasks

Movements

Every hand-off recorded the same way.

A movement records what moved, why, where to, who received it and when. The reasons are your unit’s own, managed centrally.

Reason & location

Administrator-managed movement reasons, with location and box or shelf captured.

Received by

A mandatory “Received by” on every movement, so no hand-off goes unrecorded.

Site transfers

Configurable transfers for units that work across more than one site.

Returns by QR

Property receipts and labels carry CASEY QR codes, scanned to process returns.

Hash chain

An audit trail that shows if it has been altered.

Each case log and audit entry is hashed together with the entry before it. Change or delete an entry and every later link fails to match. New cases are seeded from a completed case, so the chain continues across the unit.

  • Validate a case’s chain from the case dashboard, and re-check it on demand
  • Monitored on the server by the CASEY API, with chain-of-custody validation reports from the export tool
  • Field-level audit when case members edit item data

Exhibits accounted for

Completing a case checks that every exhibit has left the unit, following your property movement rules, and lists any unfinished tasks.

Backed up

Completing a case can queue an encrypted backup of the case folder, run by CASEYBackup.

Retained correctly

MoPI groups or a GDPR retention model, with a GDPR record on each case.
